Work Item Size

Assesses the ability to effectively size work items to reduce risk and improve flow.

Starting (0)

There is a lack of understanding of how to effectively size work items so that risk can be reduced (i.e, requirements, quality) and improve flow.

Developing (1)

Large work items are decomposed into smaller items for quicker delivery, less variability, and increased learning

Emerging (2)

Timeboxes (i.e., sprint, PI, etc.) are used to naturally decrease work item size

Adapting (3)

Common slicing patterns (i.e., workflows, business rules, CRUD operations, etc.) are leveraged when considering how best to decompose work items
